This is a charming modern storyteller by Vicky de Taos (Walker). This delightful storyteller has lots of little details with children climbing all over and listening to a grandmother tell them stories about their culture. Details include dolls, nuggets, bowls, corn, a grinding stone, children’s clothes and a baby blanket all carefully and delicately painted. This storyteller measures 8 inches in height, 8 inches in width, and 13 inches in length. There is black felt-type of material on the bottom to prevent scratching.

Note the small holes in the clay. These are the results of some small bugs eating into the storyteller. The type of bug is unknown. There are currently no bugs present.

Vicky creates her storytellers from clay, hand-forming each figure. Each figure is baked for several hours, then hand-painted with focused attention on the slightest details. Vicky states that no two of her storytellers that are the same. She also explains that they represent a grandmother passing down stories to future generations about their people and culture.

Vicky is Spanish and Apache Indian. She first lived in SanLuis, then moved to Taos, New Mexico.

The storyteller was purchased for over $200.00 in the 1980s-1990s and has had only one owner. It has been on display in a non-smoking home in an open, yet protective display case. The storyteller would be perfect for the current popular farmhouse style, a child's room (in a protective display area), or anywhere there is a desire for color, or ethnic art.
